A blog following our family of four as we explore and navigate life. We enjoy doing crafts with our kids and seeing the sights around us.

I was so homesick...
I returned from Los Angeles, California on Saturday, and was welcomed by my mom and this cute little guy at the airport. I missed home like you wouldn't believe!

Lego quatro...
We went to Once Upon a Child last night to buy some clothes for Jackson. It's not that we needed anything per se, it's more that I just wanted to buy him some clothes, but still didn't want to pay full price. As Ron was trying to contain Jackson so that he wouldn't pull down every colorful toy from the shelves, I found some clothes and was headed to the checkout when I spotted a big tub of what I thought were Duplos. Well they weren't Duplos, they were Quatros, whatever they were, they were perfect for Jackson and they were a bargain at only ten bucks. We just had to have this 70 piece set of lego fun!
(Quatros are like Duplos, but bigger and better for a one year old than Duplos. Duplos are more suitable for two year olds, according to the package. Who knew?)
We got them home and spent the next hour washing Lego Quatros in our kitchen sink, while Jackson screamed and jumped up and down waiting for his newly washed toys to be all his. While scrubbing, Ron and I talked about the process for Quatro playing... these new little toys wouldn't be left out and about for Jackson to play with on a whim. These would be taken out when he was fully supervised so that we wouldn't have 70 pieces of Lego Quatros stashed all over the house. Agreed. After Jackson was finished playing, we packed up our brightly colored building blocks, returned them to the tub and hid them away in Jackson's closet for another day.
This morning when I was looking over the pantry shelves for a snack to pack in Jackson's school lunch, guess what I found?!?! A green Lego Quatro tucked neatly between a box of NutriGrain bars and the applesauce. It's inevitable!

LA's fine, the sun shines most the time...
Well, I am off for Los Angeles tomorrow for work, a tech conference at the Omni Hotel. I am looking forward to trading in the subzero temperatures for a little warmth and sunshine, but I am having seperation anxiety!! I haven't been away from my kid for even 24 hours, let alone 4 days, this is going to be hard on this mama. It's amazing the attachment and bond one can form with a one year old. I am sure I need a little break, and sleeping in a hotel room all to myself will be a nice change of pace, but I haven't even left yet, and I can't wait to come home.
I decided at the last minute to toss in a frame with Jackson's picture inside, to put on my nightstand at the hotel... I hope that helps!
In case you missed it the title of this post is stolen from a Neil Diamond tune, I Am I Said.
Cheers to you and Mr. Diamond.

Singing a happy tune...
Jackson sure likes music. Anything that plays a little tune has our little man bopping. Bopping is Jackson's version of dancing, he just bops up and down at the knees, it sure is cute. This morning Ron was showing Jackson a fancier dance, something that would look appropriate in a junior high gymnasium in say... 1982. Jackson gave his dad the most peculiar look, as if to say "Dad, that isn't dancing!" I'm sure we'll have many more of those peculiar looks to look forward to.
As a kid, I spent many car rides ducked down as far as possible to avoid being seen with my parents while they were "dancing". I have no doubt we will torture Jackson just the same.
For now, Jackson likes dancing to any kind of music, especially daddy's guitar.
He even likes to try strumming a ditty here and there. (He was getting over his cold here, his face is greasy from all the mineral oil that's trying to heal his poor chapped nose)

Yummy Mummy...
Jackson and Ron have both been taken down with the cold of the century, so our weekend was pretty lame, and filled with loads of tissues! I've added the below pictures to let you in on our excitment.
In looking at the last picture: WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME I NEEDED A TRIP TO THE SALON?!?! Don't worry, I'm calling on Monday to make my appointment... a cut, a color and a waxing are all in order.
Have you heard the hip new term for moms? It's what all moms all over the country are striving for these days, to be called a yummy mummy. It's kind of like a MILF, but a much more desirable label. We are supposed to throw out the elastic waistbands and bulky sweaters, getting rid of the soccer mom label and embracing our potential to become a yummy mummy. Well, looking at this picture below I have a little ways to go before I achieve yummy mummy status... a trip to Rocco's is really in order.
The infected are sleeping
Fun in the kitchen again for Jackson

Yummy Mummy potential?

Leaks no more...
Huggie's Overnights worked!! It was 7:45 before we heard Jackson waking up in his crib this morning. I went in and Jackson's diaper had contained everything... so nice to wake up to his pleasant noises instead of a cry!

Leaking huggies...
The last five nights or so Jackson is waking up between 5:00 and 6:00 A.M. with a full diaper. Poop, pee, completely full and most the time it's leaked out. This morning was no exceptiong. Like an alarm clock Jackson sprung up at 6 A.M. screaming out. Ron went in, and sure enough, diaper soaked through. A wet onesie, wet pajamas, a crabby wide-awake Jackson.
Tonight on my way home I'm going to stop at Target for some Huggies Overnight diapers. They hadn't caught my eye before, but Huggie's Web site claims to have them at Target. Let's hope this works. It's been nice to get to work extra early, but I'd like a little more sleep.

A walker, a talker, and an eater...
Jackson and I missed the flu bug, but I did catch a bit of a cold. Jackson has really been doing great. Walking lots a places now, he can take 10 steps or so in the direction of something he wants totally unassisted.
Jackson must be going through a growing spurt these days, it seems like lunch is just over and he is already asking for more. His favorite foods these days are Cheerios and peas. Makes me wonder if we did the right thing by teaching the boy sign language. His vocabulary is increasing along with his appetite. He's been saying duck (du) and frog (og). We'll have to work on getting him to complete the whole word, but it's a start.
