Likes and Dislikes

It's been a while since I wrote a post like this and I was reminded how much fun they were to look back on:

Jackson Likes: Legos, Trios, Batman, Starwars, Hot Chocolate, Dinosaurs, Inspector Gadget, Swimming, Reading books, Watching swim meets, Peanut butter and apples, Pirates, Finding hidden treasures, Playing computer games, Snuggles and Peas.

Jackson Dislikes: Pizza, Being cold, Vulcans and Time outs.

Addie Likes: Sitting in chairs, Bananas, Climbing on the couch, hugs from Jackson, Swimming, Cheese, Leaning ABCs, Her Daddy, Tickles, Nigh-nigh (her nuk), Putting on other people's shoes, Climbing steps, Closing doors and Reading books.

Addie Dislikes: Being told no.

Likes and Dislikes...

Jackson likes: playing sharks at school, the color blue, drinking juice, wearing Woody (Toy Story) socks, anything pirates, trying to write his name, slumber parties at Grandma's, chinese food, watching Cars, swimming at the MCC with Dad, spiking his hair and playing Playmobil.

Jackson doesn't like: riding a bike with training wheels, taking long naps, pizza, grown-up toothpaste and sleeping alone.

Addie likes: feeding herself, cheese, tickles, pickles, dancing to music, swinging, hanging upside-down, green beans, playing with balls, bread, taking baths, eating paper, Jackson's bean bag chair, and her pacifier.

Addie doesn't like: baby gates, being hungry and teething.

Likes and Dislikes...

Jackson Likes: The Backyardigans, using glue, getting his own snacks out of the fridge, singing songs with dad before bed, going for walks with Grandma Jan and Addie, fruit snacks, macaroni and cheese, helping to give Addie a bath, Dr. Seuss books, Tarantula by Bob Schneider and playing Memory.

Jackson Dislikes: Going to the bathroom (with the move and going back to work I think we've had a set-back).

Addie Likes: Being walked around, fish at the aquarium and a morning nap in the swing.

Addie Dislikes: The jumperoo (for now)

Jackson's Likes and Dislikes:

Likes: Telling us when the light is red or green so we can go or stop in the car, going on adventures, watching daddy work in the garage, playing with sticker books, having a dry pull-up, finger paints, parades, clowns, stingrays, picking out fabric for his bulletin board, buying baby addie a book, eating breakfast out of a "big people" bowl and chocolate pudding.

Dislikes: Sharks, being told no, getting turned around at the kitchen table, not getting dessert.

Jackson just shy of 2.5...

- You love watching Go Diego go before bedtime. It calms you and makes for a nice snuggling ritual on the couch at the end of a day.

- When given the time you love to pick out your pull ups or your pajamas and get excited when you've been successful.

- You are a sponge. You learn new words every day and repeat them in a tone of question. As if to say "is this right?"

- You don't mind when mom or dad have to leave and always ask for a kiss and a hug. You often tell daddy to give mom a hug and a kiss when he heads off to work too.

- You love to sing to the baby in mommy's tummy. When asked where baby Addie is you point and say "inside mommy's tummy." Sometimes you also want to show others how babies get fed by pulling down mommy's shirt. Feeding the new baby will be interesting.

- You enjoy playing with play-doh and only ask to switch colors every five minutes or so.

- You read a lot, often "reading" stories to mom and dad.

- You know landmarks: which house is one of your grandparents, which building is daddy's work, the hospital, the library, your school when you pass by it in the car.

Likes and Dislikes

Jackson likes: S'mores, prosciutto, climbing on top of mulch piles, tattoos, getting his hair cut, seeing Doctor Jeff, oatmeal with raisins, Go Diego Go, playing with cousin Luke, playing with neighbor Elijah, picking dandelions to feed to the neighborhood kitty, tofutti ice cream bars, eating in the car at The Dariette. (pictures coming later this week)

Jackson does not like: getting his hair washed, staying in the yard, loud lawnmowers, letting go of his old picnic table for a new one.

Cute vocabulary blunders:

When trying to teach Jackson the sound a pirate makes: "Arrhh, matey" Jackson translated "Arrhh, baby."

Jackson has opted to combine the words yard and garden. So now he calls both the yard and the garden: "the yarden."

Monday Feature: Likes and Dislikes

Jackson Likes: Hot dogs dipped in ketchup, the Metrodome, stocking feet in the sandbox, lime snow cones, stegasaurus roars, books on cd, climbing stairs, going on adventures, apple juice, taking baths, strawberries, playdates with friends, having picnics and playing at the park.

Jackson Dislikes: Getting out of bathtub after splashing too much water to the floor, cantaloupe and going inside.

Jackson's Likes This Week: His new Ikea chair, non-dairy chocolate shakes, playing in the sandbox, helping dad clean the garage, riding his trike, taking a bath, ginger snap cookies, hamburgers on the grill, playing with the neighbor kids, doing "homework", eating dinner at Ikea, riding the teeter-totter, tofutti ice cream sandwiches with Grandma and Papa, cheering for the Twins, Creative Kids Stuff Store ("the toy store")

Jackson Did Not Like This Week: Coming inside and dairy-free fruit dip

What Mom and Dad Did Not Like This Week: Jackson got into his first "fight" at school. His teachers aren't sure what happened, but it was over a toy. He and "Ian" (so he tells us) had a scuffle. Jackson came home with scratches on his face and ears, I'm not sure what the other tot looked like, though I'd like to know.

Likes and Dislikes...

Jackson likes: coloring Easter eggs, putting sprinkles on Easter cookies, Go Diego Go, riding his tricycle, petting bunnies, doing "homework", helping daddy drill, making chocolate non-dairy shakes, pretending to cook, playing Simon Says, eating "cheese" burgers, washing dishes, playing with his airport.

Jackson does not like: being quiet in the bookstore and not getting enough sleep.

Counting in Spanish: I had just about given up on teaching Spanish numbers to Jackson when he was counting yo-yos in an Elmo book and said "Cinco, Seis." Yay! So we'll keep working on it.

Spanish vocab so far: Ojos (eyes), Pelo (hair), Boca (mouth), Hasta Luego (see you later), Gracias (thank you), Amigo (friend). I did get a Muzzy video from the library (geared at teaching toddlers Spanish), and had hoped he would enjoy it more but he thinks the Muzzy characters are "scary." Maybe Diego can teach him a thing or two.

Likes and Dislikes

Jackson Likes: Potato chips, riding on the carousel at Maplewood Mall, going to the library, putting on his rain boots by himself, playing with plastic food, his Menard's race track mat, bananas (again), feeding baby goats, playing with Grayson, hamburgers, edamame and going to Home Depot.


Jackson Dislikes: Big dogs, Muzzy and anything to do with sleep: nap time or bed time.

Likes and Dislikes:

Jackson Likes: coloring with markers, playing with play-doh, carpenter pencils, playing Wii bowling, mahi-mahi, looking for a big boy bed, putting raisins in his oatmeal, using a step stool to help make dinner, jelly sandwiches, tangerine mango fruit smoothies, playing with train tracks, library books, story time at the library, singing Kookaburra ("cookie bear song"), fruit snacks, pancakes, making choices and freezy pops.

Jackson Doesn't Like: asparagus

Monday Feature: Likes and Dislikes...

Jackson Likes: Jumping on his car mattress, mandarin oranges, the bird show at the Minnesota Zoo, edamame, coloring on the floor, playing DVDs in the portable DVD player, picking out books and movies at the library, french fries, read books, identifying shop tools for dad, pushing the button on dad's drill, blowing his OWN nose, playing in the snow and making snow angels.

Jackson Dislikes: Taking a nap, listening, and putting away his toys.

Jackson Knows Shapes: Circle, square, rectangle, diamond, heart, oval, star and triangle.

Monday Feature: Jackson's Likes and Dislikes

Yes, it's Tuesday again, but with the holiday, it's like Monday for me.

Jackson Likes: Non-Dairy Spinach Pizza, Valentine's suckers, going hiking at Wild River State Park, books about bugs, washing his puppy dogs in the shower, playing with tools, The Good Night Show, watching for airplanes, trail mix and heart-shaped pancakes.

Jackson Doesn't Like: Putting on his jacket to go to school, getting out of the shower and going down for a nap.


Tools Jackson knows: Drill, screwdriver, hammer, plane, wrench, hack saw, saw, allen wrench, monkey wrench, table saw, drill bit, drill press, router, jigsaw, square, calliper, nails, screws, bolts, clamps. (Ron will probably have more to add when he reads this)

Monday Feature (on Tuesday) Likes and Dislikes:

Jackson Likes: Reading Curious George on the potty, bowling, going for walks in the wagon, hot chocolate, Bumpers cereal, Go Diego Go, being tickled, visiting mommy at work, french fries, brocolli, drinking milk out of the bottom of the cereal bowl.


Jackson Doesn't Like: Sharks, live alligators, nap time.

We have now experience three nap free days over the weekend and Monday. I'm curious to see how childcare goes today. He seems to fall asleep for a few minutes, but then wakes right back up and refuses to nap anymore. What are we going to do without naptime???

Monday Feature: Jackson's Likes and Dislikes

Jackson likes: The Bee Movie, helping to make his lunch, coloring, playing with his Little People Airport, reading Curious George, going swimming at the Maplewood Community Center, drink boxes. And clowns, the bouncing team, waving at princesses, marching bands, fire trucks and police cars all at the Torchlight parade.

Jackson doesn't like: the hot air balloon fire torches at the Torchlight parade.

Monday Feature (on Tuesday): Likes and Dislikes

Jackson Likes: Pretzels, sledding, helping to cook, doing everything by himself, wearing pull ups (pirate pants as he calls them), veggie burgers, watching old sesame street You Tube videos, playing with choo-choo tracks, eating birthday cake, blowing out candles, opening presents, going swimming, goint to Home Depot, singing Are You Sleeping, drinking lemonade, helping daddy glue, watching the Good Night Show and giving kisses.

Jackson Doesn't Like: Going to school, being hungry, not being tall enough to see what mommy and daddy are doing and carrots.

Monday Feature: Likes and Dislikes

Jackson Likes: Rice Chex, playing with Maddy and Grayson, tickle bee, his new garbage truck, power tools, running, Chica on Sprout, singing Hot Dog, calling friends and family on the tele, sharing his snacks, Teddy Grahams, "mixing" and "cooking", apple pie, taking off his own clothes, sleeping with Elmo and bear, eating by himself and hiking the football.

Jackson Dislikes: getting his jacket on to go bye-bye, cantaloupe, honeydew and cauliflower.

Monday Feature: Likes and Dislikes

Jackson's Likes: Cookies, putting money in his piggy bank, juice, singing twinkle twinkle and ba ba black sheep, reading books, watching youtube videos, The Elephant Song, gluing, coloring, doing things by himself, playing hide and go seek, twinkle lights, opening Christmas cards, breaking color crayons, The Java Train, giving kisses, playing with choo-choo tracks, and singing jingle bells.

Jackson's Dislikes: His remote control truck (it scares the crap out of him), walking on snow and leaving the Java Train.

Monday Feature: Likes and Dislikes

Jackson's Likes: steak, sleeping on the floor of his bedroom, apricot fruit leathers, dump trucks, gluten-free, dairy-free pancakes, the rollercoaster at the MOA, honey roasted chick peas, playing guitar at The Children's Museum, colors, the library, putting on his coat all by himself, cooking, playing with Grayson, Baby Hank, the ball pit at Eagle's Nest and tow trucks

Dislikes: getting his hair cut, asparagus and nose wipes

Monday Feature: Likes and Dislikes

The Boy's likes and dislikes change so frequently and this feature is such proof of that. It is so nice to see that his likes are always more than his dislikes!

Likes: Caterpillars, driving the bus, puzzles, reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar, watching baseball, the farmer's market, Caliou, climbing into cupboards, pushing buttons on the computer, raking and jumping into leaves, singing ABCs, reading books on the LeapFrog LeapPad, animal pajamas, watching the rollercoaster at MOA, taking showers with Mama and rice crackers.

Dislikes: Pumpkin insides, spinach, brushing his teeth, wearing clothes and the scuba diver that talks from the aquarium at the MN Zoo!
