Not a Hero

Today in the car Jackson says randomly: "When I grow up I am going to be a hero"
I respond by telling him: "You will always be my hero"
To which, Jackson hits below the belt: "Web Producers are not heroes"

Ouch.

What Jackson Says and Does

When trying pineapple juice: "Actually, that's quite nice!"

When getting out of the bath, to grandma: "Why does mom tell me to put on my bathrobe after I have my pajamas on?  Why do they call it a BATHrobe if I don't wear it after my bath?"

Jackson is really starting to care for his sister, making sure she doesn't fall off the couch when she climbs up on her own and showing her how to play with her toys.  Today, Jackson was playng downstairs with Addie and called up to me that he needed a tissue... quick!  I came running with tissues and he took one from me and went over to Addie and wiped her nose.  She had snot dripping down to almost her chin!  It was so nice to see him taking care of his little sister.  I hope those two are a good pair and will always be friends.

The Family Update

Addie:  I am lighting up lives with my cute antics.  I love climbing up on chairs and sitting like a big girl, I had a blast at Jackson's school Valentine party as I sat up at the tables like the big kids do.  I am getting very good at knowing my animals and love to point them all out in books.  I have been trying the potty a few times here and there, both on the small and big one but I'd rather sit on the big potty. So far we have had very small successes but mom and dad are proud of me.  I went sledding for the first time this winter and had a hard time standing up in the stuff and if I got too close to the hill I couldn't seem to stop my feet from moving.  I did like going down super fast but wasn't crazy about being in the sled while mom slowly pulled me up.

Jackson: I bet I have more energy than any kid on earth, I can go go go from the time I get up until I'm forced to go to bed.  I love playing pirates and dinosaurs and my imagination is spectacular.  Just this morning I ate breakfast with a rat and a bear!  I went sledding for the first time this winter and even went downhill on my own!  I made valentines for 33 kids in my class and took my parents and sister to my school party.  I'm having fun splashing in puddles with my new galoshes and playing in the melting snow.

Sara: I'm not sure I could pack anything more into a day and I'm perfecting my time management skills.  We are leaving for vacation in 15 days and I still have three weeks worth of school stuff to complete.  I also have a stack of work to do before I can leave my job in others' hands.  I had a degree audit at school this week and have things set to graduate.  Unfortunately the two classes that I had planned to take over summer have been cancelled and will not be offered again until the Fall.  This means that instead of graduating at the end of Summer I need to wait until December.  But I'm on the road to graduation!

Ron:  I'm getting ready for summer at work, getting beach contracts signed and planning for the busy summer schedule.  I have a list of shop projects going and have my first commissioned work started.  I'm enjoying the nicer weather that's affording me an opportunity to get out into the garage.  (Sara's busy school schedule affords me this luxury too)  I was able to attend a Wild game this season with my friend Jim last night, though our home team wasn't able to pull it out.

A first sentence...

Addie said her first full sentence today.

It was:

"I fell down."

Staying inside...

This week has been downright frigid with temperatures below zero. We've spent a lot of time indoors staying warm. We had a play date with Allison, Quin and Charley, we dug for dinosaur bones and played barbies.

Allison, Quin and Charley came over for a pizza dinner and the kids got a chance to play. Charley is walking all over the place and Addie was in awe of this little girl who could do all the same tricks. Jackson, Ron and Quin had their own little playdate at the dining room table over a bin full of Legos. Jackson also spent some time loving-up the new cute girl in the house.

This week, I found a Diego Dinosaur Dig kit on clearance for $5. It was a well-spent $5... keeping us all digging for bones for hours. The kit came with a brush and a scraper for digging, safety goggles and a clay block filled with bones that when put together make a tyrannosaurus rex (Jackson's favorite dinosaur). For two nights, mom, dad and Jackson were cover in dust and looked like we'd just been out on a real dig. Jackson is now telling us that he'd like to be a Palentologist when he grows up.

On Thursday when I picked Jackson up from school he was playing with Barbies with his friends and didn't want to leave. I convinced him by telling him that we have Barbies at home. My mom saved a lot of my barbie stuff from when I was little and I had it in a bin in storage. Well after Dinner, Jackson insisted that I take out the Barbies. So we all got on the floor and had a fun evening playing with Barbies. Addie dug it and brushed Barbie's hair a lot (after 25 years in storage she needed a good brushing) and Jackson got a kick out of Barbie's horse.

Halloween until he's 22

In the car today Jackson told me that not this Halloween but the next one he wants to be Batman.  I questioned him because just last week he told me that he wanted to be a knight (all silvery and shiny).  He assured me that he still wants to be a knight but that he was talking about NEXT Halloween, he'd like to be Batman.  Then he tells me that after Batman he'd like to be Buzz LightYear and after that, maybe he can be a cowboy again.

Now I thought that this was all pretty funny but he beat it when he said that we were going to make a pattern (he's continuing to work with patterns at school). Because then he'd be an astronaut after the cowboy, then a knight, Batman and then Buzz LightYear again.  And then we'd just start all over again from the beginning.  By the time he left off he'd be a 22 year old Buzz LightYear which seems perfectly acceptable to me!

Winter Carnival

We took the kids to the Torchlight parade tonight... the kids had fun. Jackson says his favorite part was getting the granola bar and the warm fire. It was a cold night but we bundled up for the trip out to watch the Winter Carnival King get taken over by Vulcanus Rex. Jackson really enjoyed ready the story of the Winter Carnival this year. Addie was a trooper for most of it but was tired of the cold and cried all the way back to the car. When we got home we all sat around with cups of hot cocoa to warm up before bed.

Photo Shoot (Nolan and Brady)

I had the pleasure of doing another photo shoot with some adorable kids:

Not always happy and shiny...

I usually come on to the blog to write exciting and cute factoids about my kids or to share pictures of my again, cute kids. But because this blog is meant to be a virtual scrapbook for my children, I have to keep reminding myself to share the not-so-cute stuff too. So just so you all don't think I see my little world through nothing but rose-colored glasses, I wanted to share this:
